Charles Baker's Views on Climate Change

As Massachusetts begins implementing nation-leading efforts to combat climate change, the Governor's views on this issue are crucially important. Governor Patrick has repeatedly reaffirmed his belief in the scientific consensus that climate change is real, and is primarily due to human-caused greenhouse gas pollution. Recent statements by Charles Baker, his Republican challenger, raise serious questions about whether Baker agrees with this scientific consensus.

Baker's evasive and misleading statements about climate change have prompted a strong rebuke on the Boston Globe's editorial page (see here).  Massachusetts and our nation will benefit from strong action on climate change not just by avoiding climate-related impacts, but because the measures we take to combat climate change will spur our economy and create jobs. We need to know where all the candidates for Governor stand on this important issue.
