Environmental Budget Hearing Held December 1st
ELM President George Bachrach testified at the December 1st environmental budget hearing before Massachusetts Secretary of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Rick Sullivan and his Commissioners. They heard testimony in support of increased funding from environmental organizations and from business interests whose operations rely on the agency's programs and staff.
George stressed the need for the environmental budget to be at least 1% of the entire state budget. Currently, it is only .57%. He made the link between a healthy environment and a healthy economy – be it from tourism, fisheries, agriculture, or permitting new development in a timely fashion.
George also called for passage of the expanded bottle bill which would raise much needed revenue that could help support state environmental agencies. Learn more here.
