ELM Launches New Labor Council

Monday - Labor Day - ELM launched its new ELM Labor Council. ELM strongly believes environmental issues need to be reframed as economic issues. We can be both pro-environment and pro-growth. If we wish to accelerate the path to clean energy and energy conservation, we must build new alliances with responsible corporate leaders and labor. For labor, the issue is clear. Who will build and maintain the next generation of clean energy facilities? Who will retrofit and weatherize older buildings? Who will build and operate a 21st century transit system that gets worker out of their cars and to their jobs. We can and must work together.

In 2008 ELM created the ELM Corporate Council. We joined with companies such as Legal Sea Foods, Stop & Shop, Aggregate Industries, Tufts Health Plan, Genzyme, Millipore, Saunders Hotel Group, Triumvirate Environmental, Cape Wind, NStar and Grossman Marketing...and we will shortly announce our newest member...Eastern Bank. All are major employers and all are environmental leaders lowering their carbon footprints faster than state or federal regulations would require. For those who argue EPA regulations are job killers, they should meet with these Massachusetts business leaders.

At ELM we are determined to work with our colleagues, both inside and outside the environmental community, to accelerate policies that will dramatically reduce the threat of global warming.
